Elite Physiotherapists treat many clients who have suffered whiplash injuries or neck or back pain as a result of a motor vehicle accident, including rehabilitation following fractures and major trauma. Similar injuries may also occur in personal accidents or altercations and both circumstances can often result in insurance companies and litigation becoming involved.
How can Physiotherapy help?
Physiotherapy is involved in all phases of rehabilitation, from the acute (initial) stage through to recovery. During the acute stage, your therapist may use light manual therapy techniques and prescribe gentle mobilisation exercises to prevent stiffness and loss of range of motion. This may be accompanied by gentle strengthening exercises to assist in stabilising the injured regions. As in all forms of therapy, treatment is tailored to the client’s individual needs.
How long will it take my pain take to go away?
After suffering a whiplash injury, clients are often most concerned about their pain - but it is loss of mobility and motor control that will commonly cause long term disability. Early management helps to minimise any ongoing problems and you should aim to continue to do as much of your normal activity as is practical without causing pain. It is important to note that whiplash is often a complex injury and it can take time for discs, ligaments, joints, muscles, nerves and your brain patterning to recover. Your therapist will discuss how this is relevant to your situation after assessment and answer all your questions simply and clearly.
